Cam Ellis -- Ellis lists himself first as a right handed pitcher but hopefully that was a clerical error, because Ellis is a far superior prospect as a hitter. He’s a squat 5-8, 195 lb. fireplug with generally OK actions except with a bat in his hands. Ellis has superior bat speed from the left side for a sophomore and showed a well above average ability to make solid contact against all types of pitching. He hit ropes to all fields and made us wonder if he wasn’t one of these high school hitters who hit .700 with metal. This kid can just flat hit and he plays the game with intensity and passion. Ellis may be able to make himself into a college position player on defense, and he’s going to be able to hit for someone. Ellis did take a turn on the mound and threw 75-79 mph with a mid 60’s curveball and threw strikes with both pitches. "06"s throwing around 80 with command are very interesting. Cam is a very good student.
