Ryan Mendez is a 2020 C/ with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Alta Loma, CA who attends Ontario Christian. Large frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary catcher with an even, balanced stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground while working out of crouch with quick footwork. Compact, quick glove circle at exchange and generated accurate, on line throws to the bag at 70 mph, best workout pop time of 2.00. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Loose hand path to baseball with a naturally leverage barrel plane through extension. Flashed present bat speed through the zone with strength at contact. Primarily looked to work to the middle of the field and pull side gap produced good carry off the barrel when squared. Good student.
