Paul Hellwege is a 2019 RHP/1B, 3B with a 5-8 165 lb. frame from Southlake, TX who attends Byron Nelson HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.99 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced well on back side at gather. Utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate. Front side lands in line with the plate and carries momentum through release well. Releases from a high three-quarters arm slot flashing occasional running action with fastball topping at 75 mph. Has a good feel and command for fastball offering showing the ability to spot up on each edge of the plate. Curveball has softer spin with good depth when located down in the zone. Consistently filled the strike zone and challenged hitters each inning. Also worked out defensively from first base and the infield. From first base shows smooth, deliberate footwork while surrounding the baseball. Centers the baseball well with clean glove actions while funneling out front. Topped at 77 mph across the infield creating accurate, on line carry. From the infeild has good first angles to each side with developing range. Surrounding the baseball well while centering up baseball when funneling. Smooth paced, clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Released with a slightly longer arm action from the infield topping at 74 mph. Right handed hitter with a upright, balanced stance. Hands launch to contact on a compact, inside path creating a line drive swing plane through extension. Has present bat speed with good jump of the barrel when working to the right side of the field. Tools will continue to develop with continued physical maturity and repetition. Very good student as well.
