Derek Saenz is a 2020 RHP/C/1B with a 5-11 193 lb. frame from Corpus Christi, TX who attends King HS. Large frame with strong, sturdy present build. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.99 seconds. Primary righthanded pitcher, deeply hooked arm stroke with effort through elbow spiral, spine tilt deep back over rubber, lands online through delivery, gets way up to overhand slot and creates plane, fastball worked 77-83 mph with slight arm side life to arm side. Showed solid control to middle of the plate. Hits from upright stance, gets barrel moving uphill with intent to drive the ball into the air, gets barrel out on time and shows good jump off the barrel to pull side, very good strength in swing. Worked out at 1st base, waits way back, fields cleanly, hands work well, makes pivot plays well. Very good student.
