Alexander Vanlandingham is a 2020 C/IF with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Sandy Springs, GA who attends Mount Vernon Presbyterian. Athletic build with wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary catcher with a low, slightly side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground while working out of crouch with quick, sound footwork. Clean, compact glove circle at exchange and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws produced accurate, on line carry to the bag topping at 77 mph, best workout pop time of 1.87. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing clean footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Reads hops well and displayed fluid glove actions at pick up. Good arm strength at release and produced stiff, accurate carry to the bag at 88 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Quick, direct hand path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Displayed present bat speed and strength at contact with the ability to drive the ball through each outfield gap with ease. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 National Academic Showcase, Top Prospect List.
