Jacob Baasch is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Grand Island, NE who attends Bellevue West. Large frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.00 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder with compact, deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Creates momentum through the baseball into a curl hop prior to release. Clean glove actions while picking up baseball and working through transition. Long arm circle at separation and releases from a three-quarters slot topping at 82 mph. Throws generated good on line carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with a straight, slight knee knocking stance. Lower half launches to contact with linear action creating some shift. Loose, extended path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Produced occasional leverage through the zone when attacking contact out front. Primarily used a mid-field approach but flashed the ability to turn barrel to baseball and produce loud contact to the pull side gap. Also pitched showing a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot that produced solid downward angle to the plate. Utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate, tends to open front side slightly early at times. Fastball topped at 77 mph with occasional running action. Flashed a curveball with 11/5 shape that had softer spin and good depth when located down in the strike zone. Consistently filled the strike zone with both pitches while keeping hitter off balance. Good student as well.
