David Shackelford is a 2021 OF/RHP/MIF with a 5-9 145 lb. frame from La Habra, CA who attends La Habra HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Ran a 7.02 sixty-yard dash. Primary outfielder with smooth, athletic footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean pick ups and maintained momentum to the bag while working through transition. Loose arm swing and released from a three-quarters slot generating accurate carry to the bag at 83 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Created some shift into contact with lower half. Clean, simple hand path to contact with a fluid line drive barrel plane. Flashed present bat speed with solid feel for the barrel. Consistently barreled the baseball to the middle of the field with the present strength to split the gaps when squared. Also pitched utilizing a compact side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball created good tilt with occasional arm side run in the upper 70's, topped at 80 miles per hour. Breaking ball showed proper shape with good downward depth when staying on top of offering at release. Also flashed a harder changeup offering the created occasional sink to the bottom of the zone in the low 70's. Excellent student as well.
