Dane Carstensen is a 2020 SS/RHP, 3B, OF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Marion, IA who attends Marion. Medium frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Ran a 7.22 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with athletic footwork while ranging for the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball with developing fluidity while working through transfer. Released from a three-quarters arm slot producing accurate carry to the bag, topped at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and high back elbow set. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a level barrel plane through extension. Utilized a high contact, mid field approach and generated some hard contact when on time and squared. Also pitched showing a large rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather with slightly coil over back leg. Works to the plate with drop and drive actions, carries momentum to target well. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball created some downhill tilt through the zone in the mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Curvball had 10/5 shape with loose spin and some depth in the low 70's. Looked to fill the zone and consistently located to the bottom quadrants. Very good student as well.
