2016 West Coast Underclass Showcase
Joshua Esquibel is a 2018 1B with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Jamul, CA who attends Steele Canyon HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Shows beginnings of present strength and projects for more with continued physical development. Ran a 6.88 sixty yard dash. Primary first baseman, shows soft hands while funneling the baseball out front with athletic actions while ranging to each side. Topped at 70 mph across the infield with an over top arm action that created solid carry to the bag. Also worked out defensively form the outfield showing loose, athletic actions while closing to and working through the baseball. Long, loose arm action and release that generated up hill carry to the bag topping at 76 mph. Tall, slightly open stance while at the plate. Extended, loose swing path with very good fluidity throughout. Baseball really explodes off the barrel and swings with intent to drive the baseball in the air. Hammered three home runs in batting practice. Showed very consistent timing while launching to contact. Repeated a naturally lifted swing plane through extension with ease. Flashed the same smooth barrel skills and solid raw power with bat speed in games as well. Named to the 2016 West Coast Underclass Showcase Top Prospect List.
