Ricky Apodaca is a 2018 LHP/OF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Albuquerque, NM who attends Sandia HS. Wiry athletic live bodied build. Very long and loose arm action, shows the ball in back, mid 3/4's extended release point with some energy at release, not consistent in his release point, works extremely quickly. Fastball topped out at 87 mph, gets consistent flat running action. Strong ability to spin the ball, sharp breaking frisbee slider with good depth and sharpness, also will let up and throw a curveball with a bit more downer depth, two breaking balls will blend together at times. Developing change up flashed promise. Has a feel for mixing and is not a comfortable at bat, especially for left handed hitters. Has two-way college potential. 6.70 runner, has athletic actions in the outfield with a quick release and very good arm strength from a similar low arm slot. Left handed hitter, easy tension free swing, short and quick to the ball, line drive contact to all fields, has hitters hands and can barrel up the baseball. Good student, without a college commitment at present.
