Francesco Calderon is a 2018 1B with a 6-0 250 lb. frame from Guayaquil, GY who attends IMG Academy. Medium, broad shouldered build with strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.95 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, takes short steps coming off the base, hands play well out front at the ball, shows a full arm action through the back with a low effort release, arm strength will continue to develop on throws across diamond, made the plays and repeated actions. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and an open stance with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box, looks to incorporate strength into swing and elevate the ball at point of contact. Stays short to the ball and showed best carry off the barrel when extended out front; occasionally gets mistimed with trigger, ball jumps best to pull side and has ability to turn on the ball.
