Alex Rodriguez is a 2020 SS with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Claremont, CA who attends Damien High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a long build with room to fill throughout physically moving forward. Primary shortstop, moves well to the ball and fields out front with some bend at the waist, lightness to footwork and overall actions, comfort in dropping slot for throws across the diamond, works on top of the ball and shows accuracy on to first base, arm strength will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing in the box, occasionally gets to front side early with weight shift and shows a full swing path through the zone. Shows looseness and quickness to hands, contact oriented approach and showed ability in game to recognize spins, projects well with added physical strength. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Southern California.
