2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Tyson Edwards is a 2006 MIF from West HS, residing in Tracy, CA, with a 5'6", 140 lb. frame. Edwards was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has a small, yet athletically built body and plays much bigger than his size, particularly with the bat. Edwards hits from a slightly open stance and has excellent bat speed. His hands work and make a very good path through the zone. He has good balance and is able to take an aggressive swing while staying on the ball. Edwards whips the bat through the zone and produces surprising power, particularly to the pull side because he gets to inner half so easily. Presently he has doubles/triples type power. Don't be surprised if in college this undersized second baseman is putting up decent power numbers Edwards is a high energy player and it is apparent that he loves to be on the field. He is a scrappy defender willing to stick his nose in on tough chances. He goes to the backhand well and has a knack for making plays. Edwards has an average second base type arm, but his throws track pretty well. He has baseball instincts, plays hard, and has a legitimate early sign type bat, especially for the 2B position. All in all, Edwards seems to be epitome of winning, college type player.
