Josh Villegas is a 2023 1B/LHP, OF with a 5-8 121 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends James Madison. Young, square shouldered frame with a lean and projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran an 8.85 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front with two hands, moves well off the bag with athletic actions, shows balance and accuracy on throws across the diamond, lower slot on throws. Also pitched, leg lift up to belt with a long arm action through the back working to an extended three-quarters release point, lands closed with strike foot. Fastball topped out at 61 mph, mostly true in life, induced ground ball contact off the barrel and mixed a curveball with 12-6 shape, filled the zone. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Employs a contact oriented approach in the box, creates extension out front and shows handle for the barrel. Occasionally gets to front side early, comfort working to the middle of the field, projects with added strength. Very good student.
