Brent Opdyke is a 2007 C/1B with a 6'3'', 225 lb. frame from Tucson AZ, who attends Catalina Foothills HS. He has an extra large frame with very good present strength. He had a best pop time of 1.94 during drills with 76 mph throw velocity. Opdyke's throws were on line and low on the bag consistently. His tranfers were smooth and easy and he received the ball well. At his size quickness will always be Opdyke's challenge defensively but his fundamentals skills were strong. Offensively, Opkyke hits out of a open, crouched stance with a good hand load. He has a straight power approach, with some back side collapse and a long, leveraged upper cut swing. When he hit the ball it came off the bat hard and he showed the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field. This approach may struggle against good pitching if he's not able to shorten up, though. Opdyke is a very good student off the field.
