2020 South Top Prospect Games at Texas A&M
Nolan Self is a 2021 C/3B with a 6-2 200 lb. frame from Sikeston, MO who attends Sikeston Senior HS. Nolan is a noticeably strong athlete, with a frame that can add yet more muscle and strength as his career moves forward. In addition to being a top prospect, who is unquestionably ready for the next level, Nolan is also an accomplished and recognized student. A primary catcher, Nolan has all the tools that will make him an impact receiver at the next level. He presents a low and steady profile at the ready. He moves, easily and without undo stabbing to receive the ball. His hands are soft and sure. He is consistent in gaining ground during his transition and his trigger allows for his very sound 2.03 pop time to actually play up, as his accuracy is very consistent. Nolan also showed sound skill at his secondary IF position, as his skill on the dirt will probably play best at a corner. His quick feet play well here. He shows sound lateral movement and his glove is sure. His strong and accurate throwing arm is a plus. Nolan also took his turn on the mound. Although his future is probably with the gear on, Nolan did a commendable job pitching. His catcher's arm action allow him to throw consistent strikes. There is nothing fancy about his operation. He pitches with pace and works down the hill well. His 80-85 mph velo was commendable and he threw enough strikes to force the action. His 62 mph curveball, while not a real sharp snapper, was a sound compliment to the fastball he threw the majority of the time. At the plate, Nolan shows an easy load and soft stride that really lets his quick and strong hands work well. He shows a consistent feel for the barrel and gets his bat to and through contact with force. He shows emerging power to the gaps and can punish the baseball when his timing is on. Big future with the bat. Nolan has the skills and innate ability to impact the game as his career continues.
