Jake Evans is a 2020 RHP/2B, OF with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Kansas City, MO who attends Park Hill. Medium frame with longer limbs and a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength with continue physical maturity. Primary right handed pitcher with a smooth paced side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with tall and fall actions. Tends to land at a slightly closed position creating some cross fire at release. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarter slot. Fastball flashed occasional downhill tilt through the zone with some natural cut sitting in the low to mid 70's, topped at 74 miles per hour. Curveball showed 10/4 shape with loose spin and solid depth in the low 60's. Primarily looked to work fastball down and to the outer edge of the plate. Showed developing feel for breaking ball to each edge but consistently located to the bottom of the zone. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, deliberate footwork. Funnels off to side and works through transition with clean exchanges. Lower elbow slot at released and created uphill carry to the bag at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and high back elbow set. Uitlized a simple toe tap trigger. Loose, inside path to baseball with a level plane through extension. Primarily worked to the middle of the field but flashed the barrel control to work the other way as well. Hitting tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and strength. Excellent student.
