Jakob Duarte is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-4 190 lb. frame from Burbank, CA who attends Burbank. Large frame with long limbs and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Hides baseball well at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Created good whip through extension with a fastball offering that created good sinking action with run in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Maintained arm speed with curveball offering creating sharp 12/6 shape with tight spin. Showed developing feel for the zone, but flashed the ability to locate each offering to the bottom of the zone. Also worked out defensively from first base showing quick feet with soft hands while working through the baseball. Loose arm circle at exchange and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Throws produced accurate carry across the infield at 76 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance. Direct, inside hand path to contact with an uphill barrel plane through extension. Showed developing feel for the barrel while looking to generate lift to the middle of the field between the gaps. Outstanding student.
