Cedric Bolton is a lanky 6'0" third baseman from Winterville, Georgia, who was a fun player to watch in Fort Myers. He’s a very good athlete who hasn’t started filling out his frame yet, and his baseball skills are pretty raw. It seems that Bolton has received little formal hitting instruction because he isn’t mired in all sorts of mechanical pre-designed swing patterns. He just takes the bat, spreads and crouches a bit, and swings it hard where the ball is pitched. It was very refreshing to watch because Bolton generated good bat speed for a 145 lb. athlete, and made consistent hard contact that’s just going to improve as he gains strength and experience. He has good natural hitting ability. Bolton is a 7.13 runner in the 60, and has good body life. Defensively, Bolton showed good range at third base with long fielding and throwing actions, he might end up in the outfield eventually. This is the kind of young player who is a perfect fit for two years of junior college work before he moves on to Division I level baseball. Bolton is a very good solid student.
