2005 National Underclass Dec 28-30
William Barber, Jr is a 2007 RHP/1B from Colonial Forge in Fredericksburg, VA, with a 6'5'', 191 lb. frame. He has athletic actions for a big young athlete and runs, throws and hits with coordination and balance. He's still waiting for his strength to kick in. Barber throws from a 3/4's to high 3/4's release point with a good on line delivery. He has long limbs and a long arm action in back. His arm is loose and works well. Barber's fastball was in the 79-81 mph range. His best pitch was a 69 mph curveball that had very good depth and got sharper the more he threw. Barber also threw a 74 mph change up with some sink. Barber showed good command of all his pitches and made good pitches when he had to. He shows some knowledge of pitching how to get hitters out. With his very projectable body and strength, his best pitching days are definitely ahead of him. Keep a very close eye on him. He might not be the type of pitcher who finds his velocity over night, but it will be there eventually. Good follow. Barber is also an excellent student.
