LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2005 Sunshine West Showcase
Chad Gross is a 2006 3B/RHP from Claremont HS in Claremont, CA, with a 6'5", 220 lb. frame. Gross is very athletic and has very good speed for his size. He ran a 7.20-sixty on a very slow track and is probably a 7.00 runner at least. During batting practice Gross put on one of the best shows. He showed off his present raw power and hit several deep home runs. Gross has very good bat speed and gets good leverage in his swing with a slight loft swing plane. During the games he got out on his front foot early, but he kept his hands back and still had the strength to hit the ball hard. Defensively he has good arm strength and good hands that will play at either corner infield spot, or in the outfield if needed at the next level. On the mound he uses a higher leg kick and throws from a 3/4 to high 3/4 slot with good arm speed. His fastball is heavy with late tail and sink and topped out at 84 mph. He also mixed in a 67 mph curveball with sharp break. Gross struggled with his control early, but when he missed he missed low. He allowed only one hit during his two innings of work with 3 strikeouts. Gross is a physically mature two-way player that must be followed.
