2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Allen is a 5-10 junior catcher from Florida. Unfortunately, he injured his thumb on a tag play early in the first showcase game and had to sit out the remainder of the event, but we were impressed by what we saw prior to that. Allen has a young and projectable upper body with some present strength in his lower half. In batting practice he hit out of an open to closed approach with a long, balanced stride. Allen showed quick hands to the ball with good bat speed and hit the ball solidly to all fields in BP. In his only game at bat he went down and got a low outside fastball and hit a screamer at shortstop. Allen catches at a high school program that turns out professional and D1 pitchers every year and it showed in his receiving skills that we saw. He has a very comfortable set up, has above average flexibility in his lower half and receives the ball easily with soft hands. He showed very good arm strength both in drills and in a 2.08 game pop before he was injured. We look forward to seeing Allen play more in the future.
