2024 Sunshine East Showcase
Luis Vargas-Lopez is a 2025 C/2B/3B with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Kissimmee, FL who attends Southeastern Preparatory Academy. Medium, athletic frame with present strength throughout, additional room to grow moving forward. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, athletic set up behind the plate, quick actions and pops from crouch nicely, quick transfer and shows solid arm strength on throws down to second base with carry and accuracy, repeats well and showed actions in live game play as well with a back pick at second base to catch the runner. Also pitched, full wide up from the middle of the rubber, side step into a belt high leg lift; shorter arm action through the back. Fastball topped out at 76 mph from a lower three-quarters release point, remains compact through release. Switch-hitter, begins with a very spread stance in the box, remains direct to the ball with swing path and shows lots of strength in hands and wrists, loud line drive contact to the pull side. Similar set up from the left side, quick hands and keeps them inside the ball, looks to elevate and can create some leverage through the zone. Good student. Named to the Sunshine East Top Prospect List.
