Matthew Leonard is a 2023 RHP/OF with a 6-1 145 lb. frame from Roseville, CA who attends Woodcreek. Long, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.90 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, high hand set and leg lift in mechanics working into a shorter arm action through the backside with a high three-quarters to over-the-top release point. Short stride down the mound, generates short running life on fastball when working to arm side and topped out at 77 mph. Curveball shows 12-6 shape, tends to slow arm at release; maintains arm speed well on straight changeup at 63 mph, filled the zone. Younger actions in the outfield, fields the ball closer to body, similar short arm action with accuracy on throws, footwork will continue to refine. Righthanded hitter, begins with a tall and wide stance, utilizes a toe tap trigger for timing. Upper body dominant swing, long and linear path through the zone, swings with intent. Developing bat speed with added strength, works to all fields, best when going up the middle, long finish through point of contact. Very good student.
