Cooper Cavanaugh is a 2023 LHP/1B with a 6-3 180 lb. frame from Hampstead, NC who attends Topsail. Tall and slender young athletic build with lots of room to get stronger. Full windup on the mound with a big side step and high leg raise to start, gets into his backside well on his drive down the mound and creates lower half use and power to the plate, high 3/4's to over the top arm slot, arm is quick with good extension out front. Fastball topped out at 83 mph, good downhill angle with occasional hard running life. Soft curveball had good depth and a feel for landing it for strikes. Was able to mix his pitches well and work ahead in counts while keeping hitters off balance. 7.67 runner in the sixty. Right handed hitter, hits from an open stance, upper body rotational hitter whose weight stays on his back side, has the length and leverage to create more power and bat speed with adjustments. Excellent student.
