Wes Sutton is a 2020 SS/RHP, OF with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Conway, AR who attends Conway. Athletic frame with a lean build and present strength. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 6.99 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with smooth paced, clean footwork while traveling to and surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange efficiently. Released from a three-quarters slot, but also flashed the ability to change arm angle while on the run, topped at 84 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance and reaching front side trigger. Works to contact with linear lower half actions. Swung with intent while employing a naturally leveraged barrel plane through extension. Displayed developing feel for the barrel while looking to drive the ball to the middle of the field. Also pitched utilizing a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays slightly flexed on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a mid three-quarters arm slot. Displayed good arm speed through extension with a fastball offering that topped at 85 mph. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a 12/6 curveball offering that showed solid spin with good depth in the low 70's. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 National Academic Showcase, Top Prospect List.
