Colton Sampson is a 2024 LHP/OF with a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Fort Mitchell, AL who attends Russell Co. Primary left-handed pitcher with a taller, athletic frame with long levers and room to fill. Side steps to a low leg lift to balance, direct path to the plate, longer arm swing in the back to a three-quarters slot release. Arm action is clean, repeats mechanics well with command in and around the zone with all pitches. Fastball up to 81 mph with ride out of the hand (2123 RPM), curveball with 1-7 shape and depth (2035 RPM) and changeup with fade in the mid-70s were all mixed. Very good runner, recorded a 6.56 second 60-yard dash time. Secondary outfielder, showed some bounce in the workout, works through it with a long arm action and high three-quarters release. Throws had carry and some accuracy, up to 83 mph. Right-handed hitter, wide even base with hands set beside his chest. Direct, level bat path, creates extension out front when in sync and had good impact to the pull-side when in sync. Good student. Named to 2022 Southeast Prospect Showcase Top Prospect list.
