Matthew Hwang is a 2021 RHP/MIF with a 5-8 169 lb. frame from Bellevue, WA who attends The Overlake. Compact frame with a medium build. Primary right handed pitcher who worked primarily from the stretch. Created some bounce on back leg at gather and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball produced good downhill tilt through the zone with some run in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 80 miles per hour. Displayed good feel for a breaking ball that generated proper shape with solid depth. Consistently located curveball offering to the bottom of the zone in the mid 60's. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing aggressive footwork while ranging for and rounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through transition with clean exchanges. Flashed good range to each side. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot producing accurate carry across the infield at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a even, balanced stance. Loose, extended hand path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Displayed good balance throughout swing when on time at contact. Showed developing feel for the barrel while employing a mid field approach. Good student as well.
