Robert Newland is a 2022 1B/RHP, OF with a 6-3 187 lb. frame from Bloomfield Hills, MI who attends Bloomfield Hills. Tall, long frame with wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary first baseman with clean, smooth paced footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange well. Extended arm circle at take back and released from a loose three-quarters arm slot. Throws created accurate carry topping at 78 mph. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels out front and maintained momentum towards bag while working through exchange. Released from a three-quarters arm slot creating uphill carry to the bag at 74 mph. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance and toe tap trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path the baseball with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Stays on back side and looked to create lift to the gaps. Flashed some strength when squared with the carry to split the gaps. Also pitched utilizing a side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball created occasional downhill plane to the bottom of the zone in the upper 60's to low 70's, topped at 73 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape with looser spin and occasional depth in the low 60's. Breaking ball flashed tighter spin with better depth when maintaining arm speed through extension. Good student as well.
