2021 PG Softball Beta Combine #2
Jessica Kraus is a 5’6, class of 2023, RHP/1B from Riverside, IA who attends Highland HS. She is a powerful and strong athletic presence. She shows playable speed and quickness as evidenced by her 3.57 20 yard/60 foot dash and her 5.61 shuttle run. Defensively, Jessica took a turn in the outfield, and even though this is not her natural position, she showed competent skill highlighted by her strong and accurate arm. She showed well above-average and certain, projectable ability at first base. She has quick feet and positions well. Her glove plays at a high level, and she transitions to throw quickly and confidently. Her arm strength and throwing accuracy are highlighted at 1B. Where Jessica really projects is in the circle. Her five pitch mix is highlighted by a plus fastball that shows some natural cut. She can work her FB to both sides of the plate. Her plus “out pitch” is a hard, boring screwball, that should pose especially tough problems for RHH. Her change, drop, and curve compliment her two big plus pitches and completes an arsenal that certainly projects to the next level. At the plate, Jessica has a sound and consistent approach. Although she may never be called upon to bunt the ball, she does possess a competent ability to do so. She is noticeably strong through her core and incorporates that strength into each swing. She creates plus torque and the ball jumps off her bat. Jessica has a plus feel for the barrel and gets to contact quickly. She can drive the ball with authority and has plus power potential that should only get better as she continues to gain experience. Jessica is a definite college prospect, especially in the circle and at the plate. She is mature beyond her years and shows an ability that should make her a plus player at the next level. (cjm)
