KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Ava Smith is a 5'9, class of 2023 OF from Waukee, IA who attends Northwest Waukee HS. Ava is a gifted, talented, and athletic player who is just a few years away from a certain collegiate career. There is little she can not do, at a very high level, on a softball field. She ran a 3.30 20-yard dash with a 1.14 5-yard split. A primary outfielder, Ava is on the top of the list of the very best prospects in her class. She could compete on that level right now. And she has two more years of HS and Travel ball yet to go. She is strong and shows advanced actions. Very quick feet allow her to position with, for her, is routine effort. She plays with obvious confidence. She plays through the fielding action with controlled momentum and her glove is smooth. She transitions quite well to a powerful arm. Her 61-mph throws are firm and consistently accurate. One of the more impressive rounds of the day. At the plate, this RHH is special. A veteran's approach that is consistently sound. Although she may never be asked to bunt, Ava, like most great hitters, can handle the short game. She is relaxed, poised, and polished at the dish. She is an elite hitter, first and secondly she is an elite power hitter. She is short, quick, and direct to the contact zone. She has a feel for the barrel and impacts the ball with loud force. The ball sounds a little different coming off her bat. She has BIG power - leave the yard at any point, power. And the ball jumps. She hit pitches that were gone when they left her bat. Can't miss prospect as a middle-of-the-order run producer. Ava is a sure fire, big time prospect. She is immensely positive and understands her ability. She appears to get great joy out of playing and has a future that will only be determined by her determination to succeed. Her talent is palpable.
