2020 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
James Martin is a 2021 LHP/OF with a 6-2 160 lb. frame from Bethpage, NY who attends Bethpage Senior. Recorded a 7.13 second sixty-yard dash time. Long, lanky frame with long levers and room to add additional strength. Primary left-handed pitcher; works from a fairly simple delivery with a small, coiled leg lift into balance, shorter stride out to foot strike and a slight cross-body release. Fastball worked in the mid-to-upper 70s for the duration of his outing, flashing occasional cut to it and the ability to command it to both sides of the plate. Mixed in 1-7 shaped curveball that has 1-7 shape with good downer action and short horizontal tilt to it. Secondary outfielder; developing defensive skill set, deliberate actions into the fielding process, fields cleanly into a segmented over-the-top throwing motion. Recorded arm strength up to 76 mph in drills. Left-handed hitter that hits from an even based stance with a higher wrapped hand set, high back elbow and small hover trigger. Middle-to-opposite field approach with slightly upward swing path and developing feel for the barrel. Fairly consistent bat-to-ball skills with compact, present bat speed. Will continue to improve with slight adjustments and additional strength. Good Student.
