Jack Casteel is a 2025 1B/LHP/OF with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Westlake. Long build with plenty of room to fill out shows good potential to help take his developing tools to a new level in the field and on the mound. Primary 1B, displays the body and length for the position. Did not use much forward action through the play, sits back to field flashing some glove skill. Learning some soft touch and establishing the fundamentals, transfer and footwork will loosen up as he advances his athleticism. Worked the outfield, showed much more to come when he puts some moving pieces together and fills in the young strength gaps. On the mound, the high waisted left hander has some feel for what works for him when he can repeat his delivery. Has a pretty simple operation that is balanced and did a job working the low zone with some downhill life on the fastball that was up to 71 mph. Has a long arm action with some looseness to it, produced good arm side action with the heavy fastball. Front side is pretty quiet and he rides the mound smoothly for now, plenty of velocity to come when he adds some explosiveness to his mechanics. Left handed hitter, works out of a wide base and looks to elevate the ball. Had a very aggressive approach, displayed some max effort swings that can pull off the front side some. Showed much better use of torque and flashed that strength potential well putting one out in his round, the ball really jumps off the barrel with carry when he connects out front. Great student.
