Abel Cortez is a 2028 RHP/3B with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Mission, TX who attends La Joya Palmview. Primary RHP with a more physical frame. Side-step delivery and repeats motions well throwing from a 3/4 slot. Gets on time with his delivery and repeats motions finishing downhill and in line. Fastball worked up to 83 and located well. Went to a curve in the low-70s that he could get on top of with some depth. Has healthy shape to it more 12-6 with intent. Velo should continue to tick up. Also played outfield working to the ball well. Shuffles into his throws and gets it out well staying on top of the ball. Showed a strong projectable arm strength. Also played infield profiling well on the corner. Gets to his backhand fine and tends to field it upright shuffling into his throws. Transfer and release will need to be quicker moving forward. Right-handed hitter with a balanced base. Sinks into his lower half on the weight transfer. Showed strong pull-side impact. Weight tends to leak forward at times but uses the middle of the field well. Good bat speed with impact. Power projects more than anything. Good Student.
