Franko Ortega is a 2027 RHP/2B/3B with a 6-1 150 lb. frame from Columbus, IN who attends Columbus North. Tall and lean high waisted build with lots of room to get stronger. Works from a full windup from the first base side of the rubber, high leg raise with a slight coil over the rubber, gets some lower half drive down the mound, arm is loose and whippy from a high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 84 mph with some carry up in the zone and sinking life low. Slider in the mid-70's is a very good pitch with spin rates reaching 2,704 rpm and showing sharp 10/4 biting action. Change up was also a good pitch with diving action. Three-pitch starter mix with tons of projection remaining. 7.65 runner in the sixty. Plays infield when not on the mound, step by step third base actions, has soft hands and changes his arm slot well. Left handed hitter, hits from a medium base with short heal turn trigger and stride, hits off his front side with a quick upper body driven line drive swing, mostly pull line drive contact, handles the barrel well. Good student. Named to the PG Indianapolis Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.
