2024 Puerto Rico National Showcases Qualifier
Santiago Ortiz is a 2025 1B/RHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Carolina, PR who attends St John’s. Extra large build with some present strength and more to come. 7.66 runner in the sixty. Primary first baseman, long and loose arm action in back, arm strength/arm action is his best defensive tool and stands out. Right handed hitter, loads his hands high and keeps them there, slashing downhill swing path, gets the barrel head out front consistently and moves the ball around, some impact when he squares it up. Also pitched, works from the stretch with a high leg raise start, arm action is much shorter than he showed while on the field, throws across his body and gets some cutting action on his pitches. Fastball topped out at 85 mph early and was mostly in the low 80's, still developing feel for spinning the ball. Looks young and inexperienced on the mound at present. Very good student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
