2007 California Underclass Showcase
Shaun Cooper is a 2008 MIF/OF with a 5'11'', 178 lb. frame from Tucson AZ, who attends Catalina Magnet HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Cooper has a strong, compact and athletic body that is well suited for baseball. Cooper was not only one of the more physically talented players at the showcase, he also was one of the top performers. There really is little that he cannot do on the field. Offensively he showed a full set of abilities. He can hit, has power, and he can run fairly well. Cooper has very good hands and a good trigger. He has good bat speed, has a lively short swing and stays inside the ball as he drives through contact. His power plays from gap to gap. Cooper is also a good baserunner, with the ability to accelerate and get to top speed quickly. Defensively he showed off a nice arm, with an excellent release and soft hands. He not only has good defensive tools, but he has playability. Cooper is a true baseball player with a bat that plays at a high level. He is an excellent student too.
