2023 Fall Midwest Workout Showcase
Abram Decena is a 2028 OF/C, UT with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Centerville, IA who attends Centerville. A younger frame with a medium build that projects with some strength, showing room to keep adding moving forward. Ran a 7.39 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder who had a clue for the footwork working into throws. He was choppy working into it with throws that came out well. He was accurate to the bag with throws that came out well from a longer arm stroke. He had a big glove point as he worked into throws—projectable actions. As an infielder, he moves low to the ground with a sturdy lower half and a feel for the footwork. He moves well, showing a feel for the glovework, showing the actions with a clean transfer. Threw 80 mph across the diamond. He also worked out as a catcher with a slightly open base and wider feet as he sets up. He gains ground well thru it with a shorter release. Threw 72 mph down to second with a 2.15 pop time. Accurate with throws down to second. Good foundation of traits to build upon. He's a left-handed hitter with an upright stance, higher-set hands, a high-back elbow, and good barrel accuracy. He was able to rotate well through contact and create some whip through the zone. Plenty of bat speed with strength showing off the barrel, which was evident during his round of swings. He hit several home runs during his round of BP swings with the ability to leverage showing. It was a forward move with good actions through the zone, creating separation and doing damage. Also took to the mound for a bullpen. He used a belt-high leg kick with an average stride down the mound, letting him throw off the back hip. He showed a fastball in the upper-70s with some arm-side run to the pitch. Also showed a changeup with good vertical sink and some arm-side tilt. Also showed a curveball with 12-6 shape and glove-side horizontal tilt. He repeated mechanics well and had a solid foundation of traits to build upon. Projectable actions in the field, in the box, and on the mound. Named to 2023 Fall Midwest Workout TP List.
