James Denton is a 2029 C/RHP/IF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Franklin, TN who attends Christ Presbyterian Academy. Long and slender young build with lots of room and time to get stronger. Right handed hitter, sets up in a medium stance with a high back elbow load, tends to stay on his backside during his swing, casts his hands out and creates a long and extended swing, swings hard with the beginnings of some bat speed and developing barrel skills. 8.14 runner in the sixty. Primary catcher on defense, sets up in a straight stance, some lower half flexibility and actions, very simple transition and release, repeats well, over the top arm action, game actions in drills. Also worked out in the infield with third base actions and tools, made accurate throws with step by step actions to the ball. Took a turn on the mound, has a belt-high leg raise with a deep long arm action, slow pace down the mound. Fastball topped out at 74 mph with the ability to locate to the glove side. Showed some feel for a low 60's slider, threw strikes and competed well.
