2023 Florida Prospect Showcase
Joshua Virella is a 2024 1B/RHP with a 6-4 250 lb. frame from Port Chester, NY who attends Port Chester. Extra big and strong build, stands out physically. Switch-hitter at the plate, hits from a wide base from the right side, gets a bit early with his front side at times, has raw bat speed and power with more to come. Has similar hand quickness from the less side but a big less connected from this side in his swing mechanics. 8.13 runner in the sixty. Primary first baseman on defense, has a good idea with his footwork and puts himself in position to make accurate throws, agile for his size. Also pitched, on line delivery with a medium length arm action, hides the ball well, mid 3/4's arm slot, pretty low effort mechanics. Fastball topped out at 77 mph, mostly straight, still developing feel for his curveball and change up.
