Leighton Matney is a 2028 RHP/2B, SS with a 5-7 125 lb. frame from Edina, MN who attends The Blake School. Features a lean frame with ample room to add. Ran a 7.85 60-yd dash. In the INF, he was a bit hesitant in his approach but he fielded every ball clean. On throws across he used a full/loose arm stroke that got off accurate throws across. At the plate, he sits in a wider stance and uses a quick/simple forward move. Swing worked a bit rushed at times but worked the barrel on a flatter path through the zone. Hands flashed some decent quickness to the swing with quality impact results to the middle of the field. Had himself an opposite field knock in-game as well. On the mound, he showed a simple/repeatable operation. He side steps into a belt high knee tuck with an arm that works loose/continuous to release at a ¾ slot. His low 70s fastball exhibited some natural running action. Mixed in a mid 60s slider that he had good feel for in-zone, produced some chase/whiff, and showed early signs of sweeper type shape. Ended up throwing three shutout innings and struck out seven. Was named to the Top Prospects List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
