2022 Pitcher / Catcher Indoor Showcase
Carter Smalley is a 2024 RHP/3B/OF with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Ankeny, IA who attends Ankeny Centennial. He has a medium frame with a lean, athletic build that features present strength. Primary right-handed pitcher that uses a knee to just above the belt leg kick and lands closed off to the plate, giving the hitter a cross fire look. He has a short arm circle and throws from a low 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose arm that is able to create whip on release. He is able to generate arm side run with his fastball due to his arm angle. His curveball has 11-5 shape with good tilt and depth, giving it two-plane movement. He does a nice job of adding velocity and taking velocity away from his curveball depending on the situation. He throws his changeup with the same arm speed, but is able to create a nice velocity difference from his fastball, making it tough on opposing hitters. He showed the ability to locate all three pitches and was able to generate swings and misses with all of them. Right-handed hitter that starts in a narrow base that is open with an upright stance. He has a rotational swing and stays on balance well. His swing is fluid and he showed the ability to square the ball up. Good student.
