Smith has what scouts refer to as a “prototype frame,” as his powerfully built, tall stature bodes well for his future as a big league starter. His electric stuff speaks to the potential even better, as he touches 93 mph with his fastball, working mostly in the low-90s with good late life. He also flashes a sharp curveball with late bite, as well as a slider. His feel for his changeup gives him a deep arsenal, and along with his clean, easy delivery, gives scouts a good reason to view him as a high ceiling starter.
