PG Texas Invitational Quick Hits

PG TX Invitationals: 12u | 13u | 14u


Bret Deegan (2023, Spring, Texas) started off the tournament hot by working 80-82 mph with his fastball in the early portion. Deegan has a very projectable frame with a good delivery and a whippy arm stroke. He could mix in a power breaking ball as well and held his velocity well for the majority of his 30-pitch outing.

CE Gaitz (2023, Cypress, Texas) is a good-looking prospect as a lefthanded hitting shortstop who stands at 6-foot, 160-pounds. He’s broad with lots of room to fill and has a direct, simple stroke from the left side. He’s performed well thus far and showed the ability to generate backspin to both gaps with projectable power.

Jordan Miller (2023, Magnolia, Texas) isn’t the biggest prospect on the field, but what he lacks in size he makes up with barrel awareness and instincts. Miller is fairly athletic and has soft hands in the middle infield but stands out offensively with a loose, simple stroke and has a very advanced feel for manipulating the barrel to work on a line to all fields.

Barak Wilkins (2023, The Woodlands, Texas) showed impressive tools on both sides of the ball, impressing with his quiet receiving and arm strength from behind the plate and his mechanically sound swing offensively. He has advanced strength at the point of impact with present hip rotation and looks to fit the profile of a power-hitting catcher.

James Ellwanger (2023, Magnolia, Texas) has present arm talent to go along with a very long and physically projectable 6-foot-1, 147-pound frame. Ellwanger has a very short arm stroke with some quickness to it and ran his fastball up to 79 mph on Friday night while tossing two and one-thirds innings of shutout baseball.

Brandon Seidmeyer (2023, Magnolia, Texas) is a well-built catcher with good tools both defensively and with the stick. He has soft hands behind the dish and popped times around the 2.2 second mark in between innings while he has some loft to the swing plane offensively and creates good carry to both gaps and batted .500 on the weekend.

Jaxon Burch (2023, Watson, La.) didn’t have the greatest stat line on the mound but there’s a lot to like from a scouting perspective. Burch topped out at 79 mph on the weekend with an athletic delivery and a loose arm stroke. He can spin a curveball too with good depth in the mid-60s and recorded a home to first time of 4.50 seconds.

Reese Mooney (2023, Denham Springs, La.) has advanced size at a listed 5-foot-11, 160-pounds and looks the part over at short with legit hitting tools. He moves well to both sides with a strong arm across the diamond while the swing plane is clean with requisite bat speed and his power will come in waves as he fills out his projectable frame.

Easton Tumis (2023, Friendswood, Texas) turned in a strong performance on Friday night going five innings while striking out eight batters. Tumis has an advanced delivery with simple motion to the plate and a loose, easy arm stroke. The 6-foot, 130-pound righthander is slender with lots of room to fill and whipped the arm to produce a fastball that topped out at 80 mph.

Hayden Morris (2023, Conroe, Texas) impressed during his one inning on the mound during their first game on Saturday as he struck out the side in a short, scoreless frame. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect has very good size with present physicality and has a simple delivery with a quick, online arm stroke. He ran his fastball up to 80 mph and showed some feel for a power curveball at 70 mph.

Alexander Petrovic (2023, Cypress, Texas) showed very intriguing two-way potential over the weekend, showing a feel for the barrel and running his fastball up to 81 mph. Petrovic is an extremely lanky and projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pounds and has clear strength with a very direct stroke and a feel for manipulating the barrel to drive the ball to all fields.

Jakob Schulz (2023, Houston, Texas) worked his fastball up to 83 mph and though he struggled with command, he has a 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame that’s ripe for projection. He walked hitters but showed feel for working to both sides with a clean arm stroke, significant angle on the fastball, and a short, power breaking ball in the mid-70s that avoided barrels.

Sam Myers (2023, Cypress, Texas) put on a show this weekend, as though Twelve Silver was eliminated in the first playoff round, Myers batted 1.000 in his three games. Myers is a very good athlete, 4.51 turn time from the left side, and has a quick, compact stroke. He drives the ball well and included some pull side juice with a triple to the right centerfield alley during round one.

Jon Cassidy Vanek (2023, Lake Charles, La.) has a strong three pitch mix on the mound and showed out well during his start on the mound. The delivery is athletic and loose with good arm speed and he topped out at 79 mph. He had good feel for his curveball with projectable shape and even turned over a filthy changeup to get a whiff from a righthanded hitter.

Cale Comeaux (2023, Breaux Bridge, La.) is a very impressive two-way player, with excellent size, bat speed, and present velocity. The 6-foot-2, 168-pound prospect has a free and easy delivery with a clean arm stroke and worked 79-81 mph during his one inning. He has a clean swing with present bat speed too and it’s hard to miss him on a baseball field.

Gabriel Flores (2022, Longview, Texas) showed some of the louder hitting tools of the event with impressive raw bat speed and lots of strength. Flores stands with a physical present build at 6-foot, 160-pounds and he drives through contact with his lower half well to drive the ball as he did on a double and triple that banged off the left field and centerfield wall respectively.

Trenton Lape (2023, Bossier City, La.) had some of the better velocity of the event with a fastball that topped out at 83 mph and lived in the low-80s. The delivery is fluid with good present arm speed and a clean stroke. Lape creates some arm side life and the breaking ball showed good spin flashing sharp break with 11/5 shape.

Noah Paddie (2023, Marshall, Texas) is a true do-it-all shortstop and plays the game hard too. He has very loose, athletic actions over at short with excellent hands and runs well too with a 4.47 turn time on an extra base hit. He has loose hands with a clean swing and did a good job at getting out front to create liners and set the table for the offense.

Brandon Levy (2023, Bossier, La.) is a physical righthanded pitcher with good present arm strength as he worked 80-82 mph during his start. Levy has a compact arm stroke and comes straight over the top, creating some cut on the ball. He fights his front side a bit but also showed a curveball that he could land for strikes.

Diego Luzardo (2023, La Porte, Texas) has a very low effort delivery from a projectable frame. The delivery is simple, out of the stretch, and has a low effort arm stroke with good arm speed by running his fastball up to 82 mph. He sinks the ball nicely and is tough to pick up from a crossfire delivery and pounded the strike zone.

Conner Bennett (2023, Spring, Texas) was outstanding over the weekend showing excellent athleticism and flexibility behind the dish. He has a very quick release with solid arm strength and was popping around 2.08 seconds in between innings. He has good present bat speed and covers the plate nicely with home run power to pull and carry to all fields. 

Tracer Lopez (2023, Rosebud, Texas) set the table all weekend for the Banditos and the combination of athleticism and bat-to-ball skills stands out. The swing is short and direct to the ball and he can hit for extra bases as he manipulates the barrel well to drive it down the line and into the gaps.

Alexander Solis (2023, Mercedes, Texas) has a pretty quick arm and touched 84 mph in two relief appearances this weekend. The arm stroke is loose and fast and Solis has a projectable frame with lots of room to add strength and increase velocity as he develops and fills out from a physicality perspective.

Cameran Christ (2023, Lake Charles, La.) is one of the early commits of the 2023 class with a verbal commitment to Mississippi State. Christ has the physical frame of a D-I prospect with a very broad, projectable 5-foot-11, 165-pound build and operates a very simple, efficient stroke. There’s present bat speed and lift to the plane with good leverage to give him power to pull.

Cade Arrambide (2024, Spring, Texas) stood out in a big way for the 13u age group with present strength and size. Arrambide has tools to work with on the defensive side of the ball with good arm strength and a quick release, he popped around a 2.10 in between innings, and has present juice and missed a long bomb into the trees by a few feet.

Dyson Fields (2023, Ruston, La.) is a nice two-way player that has plenty of righthanded bat speed and a strong arm that registered up to 83 mph on the mound. Fields swing is a bit raw, but it’s fast and he can impact the ball with strength. On the mound, the arm stroke is whippy and the overall projection is enticing as well.

Jordan Luna (2024, Washington, La.) is another young prospect that stood out at the 13u division. Luna rocketed a ball high off the left field wall and has very quick hands with a fluid stroke and good athleticism at short. The arm strength is advanced too as he was up to 81 mph on the mound in a relief stint.

He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. In what was an ultra-impactful week on the national landscape, there are some clubs fading out of the limelight while others are emerging from the shadows and showing they are a force to be reconned with. The 2026 MLB Draft class is shaping up to be one of the better in recent memory and, potentially, the best class in the last decade. It’s led by UCLA superstar shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a true five-tool prospect who’s the early favorite for 1:1. One of the most popular pieces of industry feedback when constructing this list was some variation of “Roch is too low” or “go up on Roch” and he’s the best college prospect since 2019 when Adley Rutschman (Oregon State, Orioles) was the consensus No. 1 prospect. In every major sport, the championship is decided in the postseason. You can lose games all year, get hot at the right time, and walk away with the hardware. The regular season is a rehearsal. The playoffs are the show.  The championship belt changes that. Borrowed from professional wrestling, boxing and ultimate fighting, the belt travels the moment the holder loses — no brackets, no seeding, no second chances. A random Tuesday non-conference game in Milledgeville, Georgia  becomes a title fight. A spring trip to Florida becomes a gauntlet. The defending national champion can lose the belt before February is over.  We’re tracking three belts this season — NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NCAA Division III — each starting with the defending national champion. We have another update to the National Top-50 after two weeks of even more games being played in the southern states along with seasons just starting to kick off across the country. We’re quickly approaching another stellar high school event, the NHSI in Cary, and with that will come even more movement in these rankings. St. John Bosco (CA) continues to hold firm at the No. 1 position after a 4-0 start to their season. Venice (FL) has been rolling throughout the early portion of the year and jumps up to No. 2 in the country. One of the biggest movers in this update is The Bennett School (TX) jumping from unranked to No. 8 in the country after beating a handful of top ranked programs to start the year.
