Three Grab BCS National Qualifier Titles

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Siege 18u Scout Team took home the 2021 18u PG National Championship Qualifier title Sunday afternoon, defeating the JSB Tigers 18u, 13-0, in four innings. After extending their lead past 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Siege reached the threshold for a mercy rule, winning the title in an abbreviated fashion. 
 
With the win, Siege has earned a spot in the 2021 18u BCS National Championship, which will also take place in Fort Myers from June 18-22.
 
Siege opened up the scoring for the matchup as Angel Martinez led off the bottom of the first by reaching on an error, stealing second, and promptly reaching home on another Tigers error. 
 
Siege kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second, as an RBI single from William Rasnick and a series of Tiger miscues allowed Siege to build a 5-0 lead. While the Siege bats looked to stay hot into the third, a thunderstorm delay quickly derailed their attack, pausing play for over two hours. In an effort to keep his players dialed in, Head Coach Guillermo Garcia kept his players together near the field, urging them to stay focused on the task at hand.
 
“We told them to relax,” Garcia said. “But also to be ready to play the game at any time. We came here for a reason, and that reason was to be a champion today.”
 
Despite the long hiatus, the Siege offense picked back up where they left off in the bottom of the third. Behind RBI singles from Allan Arjona, Hector Revollo and Rasnick, along with a two-RBI single from David Bauer, Siege put up eight runs to revive their offensive onslaught, mounting a 13-0 lead.
 
Siege’s impressive display continued between the lines as Derek Arrocha asserted his own dominance on the mound. Tossing four innings, Arrocha threw a complete-game shutout, striking out three while allowing only one hit and one walk. Arrocha fanned his final Tiger batter to close out the last frame, securing the victory for Siege.
 
On top of his solid performance, Bauer received MVP honors for the tournament. The outfielder was 6-for-11 on the tournament, picking up six RBI, seven runs and five stolen bases on the weekend. Bauer said his comfortability with his teammates was a driving factor for his success.
 
“Our team is super close,” Bauer said. “I think having them make me feel good in the competitive environment helped me see the ball really well this weekend.”
 
Santiago Blanco Montes took home the MV-Pitcher award for the weekend after tossing six shutout innings over three games, striking out nine while allowing just one hit and three walks throughout the tournament. Montes said staying focused throughout was key in his stellar three outings.
 
“I stayed concentrated because my coaches told me they were going to use me in any situation and at any time,” Montes said. “I got ready and stayed ready, which I think helped me perform.”
 
As Siege looks down the road, Garcia expects the same performance and result from his team in the National Championship.
 
“All they have to do is come out and play the game right with the right attitude to be successful,” Garcia said. “You can’t ask for more. These kids are really good.”
 




2021 PG 14u BCS National Championship Qualifier
 
The Gulf Coast Monarchs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Sunday afternoon, blowing by the Florida Burn 2025 on their way to a 9-0 championship win and 14u BCS National Championship Qualifier title.
 
A two-RBI double by Owen Rardin jumpstarted the Monarch offense in the bottom of the first. Matthew Blasena promptly drove Rardin home with a double of his own one pitch later, giving the Monarchs an early 3-0 lead. Rardin added to his stellar day in the third inning, driving home RJ Machado and Johnny King with a two-RBI single. Rardin later scored on a Braden Rosenthal double, and Rosenthal was driven home by a Cole Ingole RBI single, extending the Monarch lead to six runs. The Monarchs added on in the fourth, as a Jackson Geiger inside-the-park home run drove home two more, finishing off their offensive with a 9-0 lead.
 
While the bats provided plenty of run support, Monarch pitchers Machado and King needed little help on the mound. The duo combined for five shutout innings, each allowing just one hit while striking out two.
 
Geiger took home MVP honors for the tournament, going 10-for-14 with a triple, home run and six RBI on the weekend.
 
Rosenthal added hardware for the Monarchs as well, receiving the MV-Pitcher award for his dominant performance in the semifinals, throwing six shutout innings, fanning six while allowing just one hit and one walk.
 


2021 PG 13u BCS National Championship Qualifier
 
In a back-and-forth offensive battle, Alan Overmyer drove home a walk-off victory for Gulf Coast Monarchs 13u with a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, squeezing out a 12-11 win over FTB United National 13u and a 13u BCS National Championship Qualifier victory.
 
Both teams put on an offensive show in the first inning. Behind RBI doubles from Louis Hernandez and Sammy Echeverry, FTB quickly mounted a 5-0 lead in the top of the inning. However, the Monarchs answered with five runs of their own behind RBI singles from Zachary Wilson, Nicholas Raber and Joseph Lawson, evening the score. Echeverry then added a two-RBI single to his impressive day in the second, taking the lead back for FTB. The Monarchs added a run in the second and then retied the game in the fourth with a Robert Fitzsimmons single. FTB quickly answered by plating two runners in the fourth; however, the Monarchs fired back yet again, as a Dylan Fernandez RBI single erased the FTB lead. 
 
Eager to get a grasp of the title, FTB tacked on two more runs in the fifth as a Nicholas Veneziano sacrifice fly and an aggressive steal of home by Johnny Chen See grew the FTB lead to three. Despite a Raber RBI triple in the sixth, FTB maintained their lead into the bottom of the seventh. However, that lead didn’t hold for long as Fitzsimmons clobbered an RBI triple of his own, tying the game and putting the winning run on third base with one out. In the ever-important next at-bat, the Monarchs chose to sub in Overmyer, and their decision paid off as the outfielder drove a liner into left field, earning Gulf Coast a walk-off championship victory.

Raber was named the MVP of the tournament, as he hit .438 over the course of the weekend with eight runs scored and three RBI, and also threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball on the mound, striking out three. Veneziano was the MV-Pitcher of the 13u division, for his work over two outings in which he tossed a total of 6 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out six, and earning the win both trips out.

Good food, time with family, and the unspoken rule that nobody brings up religion or politics at the dinner table.   Why? Because they're powder kegs.
