Gavin Cunningham (2024, Richmond, Va.), a 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed starter, took the mound for Richmond Braves 17u and was slotted in the three-hole and did not disappoint on either side. The projectable, athletic Cunningham went straight to work early as he pounded the strike zone with fast balls in the upper-70s and collected soft-contact outs. Mixing in a sweeping breaking ball in the mid-60s to keep hitters honest, he did most of his damage on the mound with his fastball, battling early while keeping his team in the game. On the offensive side of the ball, Cunningham was able to push his team over the edge with a big RBI double into the left-center field gap. His slow, simple load allows him to deliver his hands to the ball on time and out in front of the plate, resulting in him getting through the baseball very well. Cunningham has a large frame that he uses well both on the mound and at the plate, with potential to have two-way ability at the next level.
