East Memorial Day Crowns Champions

Top 10 Academy Remains Undefeated, Wins it All
Top 10 Academy came away with the 18u championship at the East Memorial Day Classic in dominant fashion.

An undefeated run to the final game for Top 10 was capped off by a 12-0 victory over Charlotte Thunder 18u.



Willy Mendez got his team on the board first following a single to left field, and it was off and running from there.

Extra bases from Angel Arjona and Jendy Gonzalez capped off a three-run third inning that saw Ronny Cruz, Arjona and Cristian De Los Santos come across to score.

Four more runs came across to score in both the third and fourth frames, ending the game in run-rule fashion - capped off by a grand slam by Gian Caicedo.

Juan Cazarez dominated on the mound over his three innings, striking out seven with a low-90’s fastball and mid-70’s curveball in just 43 pitches.

This championship effort concluded a commanding run for Top 10, outscoring its five opponents 55-10 over three days.


Collective Effort Claims Title for CBU 2024 Scout 
Everyone pitched in for CBU 2024 Scout Team during its 17u championship run at the East Memorial Day Classic - literally.

“When you go into these tournaments, you gotta prepare for the best and you also have to prepare for the worst,” head coach Shane Roland said. “So when you get to the last game, it’s kinda all hands on deck, everyone said they were good to go, and we had [Timothy Lawson] and we had [Antonio Socarras].”

Heading into its final game with Lawson and Socarras as the last two available arms, CBU pulled off a 6-4 victory to be crowned champions and cap off a 6-0-1 weekend.

“I’m just proud of the guys,” Roland said. “Three days, good baseball, good competition, they put it all together. Our pitching was outstanding…You just got a bunch of guys that just buy in, and when they buy in, beautiful things can happen.”

Lawson tossed 5 1⁄3 innings while striking out six, mixing in a high-80’s fastball and mid-70’s slider. Socarras came in to relieve the left-hander in the bottom of the sixth, not giving up a single hit over his 1 â…“ innings of work and pulling off the victory.

“They did great,” first-baseman Johnny King said. “They competed, it was a little stressful but they got through it and got the job done and that’s all that matters.”

King, a Miami commit and MV-Pitcher of the tournament, was CBU’s first run on the afternoon after a single to right field in the top of the second - being brought home by Socarras a batter later.

A four-run fifth inning extended CBU’s lead to five, with Dylan Murphy highlighting the frame with a two-run double to drive in Mason Barela and Andrew Prieto.

Burn brought three runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning, and despite loading the bases, a double-play put an end to the valiant comeback effort.

And despite playing seven games over three days, the key for Roland and CBU is simple: taking in their final summer as a team.

“Probably just communication,”Roland said. “Just making sure the guys are locked in all the time, preparation, we always make sure they’re ready to go and give them as much rest as possible.

“This is our last summer together,” Roland said. “So it’s more about enjoying the summer, and taking home some hardware helps.”


Power Baseball Clubs Their Way to Title

Power Baseball 2025 Marucci used their hitting strength to win the 16U East Memorial Day Classic title over the clever defense of the Barwis Dragons.

Both teams’ pitchers were able to keep the runners away form the plate - until the fourth inning when Kai Lwin hit a two-RBI triple.

Lwin said by the time the fourth inning came around, he knew he was the man to get the first runs on the board.

“I just knew how to do the job and get something down hard,” Lwin said.

Right-handed pitcher Adrian Rodriguez was on the mound and in the box for the Dragons. Rodriguez hit a double in the fourth inning that ultimately resulted in the team’s only run after a sacrifice RBI by Stephen Gladding.

Rodriguez pitched five innings for the Dragons - getting his pitch count up to 82 and wracking up 3 strikeouts before he was taken out in the sixth.

Due to the Dragons’ only other pitcher experiencing cramps, the Dragons forfeited the game at the top of the sixth after briefly trying out outfielder and third baseman Ray Barwis on the mound.

For Power, right-handed pitcher, Caden Jensen, pitched for four innings, wracking up three strikeouts with a pitch count of 47. In the fifth, Julian Mercado came in to throw 26 pitches and get two strikeouts.

RBIs from right fielder Maximus Mayes and third baseman Erick Martinez contributed to make the score 4-1, with the other two runs added by advances due to walks in the sixth.

Though it was an anticlimactic ending to the championship game, Power’s head coach Eric Lasseter said it was a long road over the past couple days for his team to end up here.

“We really started out flat, we lost one to zero the very first game,” Lasseter said. “But the guys didn’t freak out. We weren’t pouting… I think it’s just that they can believe in each other and it doesn’t matter which guy we roll out at which time. They all have the ability to go and help us win a baseball game.”


MBA 2026 Continue to Thrive
The MBA 2026 Scout Team came up from behind to win the 16U East Memorial Day Classic championship against the Florida Burn 2026 Scout Team 7-6. 

The championship match went back and forth, with MBA getting the first run on the board, but Florida Burn taking a lead by the end of the top of the fourth. MBA took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth - but the game only continued four innings. 
 
For the first three innings, right-handed pitcher Kade Judson threw 80 pitches and three strikeouts allowing three runs. His fastball stayed at around high-70’s with his curveball at low-70’s.

For MBA, left-handed pitcher Ethan Trivison pitched for two innings and some change, getting his pitch count up to 58 and getting 5 strikeouts. His fastball stayed in the low-80’s range and his curveball in the mid-60’s.
 
After Trivison came right-handed pitcher Chandler Dantzler, who threw for 43 pitches, one strikeout, and got up to the low-80’s with his fastball and mid-60’s with his curveball.

Third baseman Spencer Adams contributed three RBIs along with Ethan Dejesus and Dylan Messina contributing one and two respectively. Messina also added a run to the board for Florida Burn. 

For MBA, second baseman Luke Labbe was able to contribute two RBIs along with his teammates Jordan Martinez, Brady Harris and Ethan Wheeler each getting one. 

After four innings, MBA came away with the title of 15U East Memorial Day Classic 2023 champion.

PG has announced the dates for Prospect Gateway events across the country - unique opportunities for young players to receive professional feedback and prepare for the next level. The Prospect Gateways are for players ages 13U-14U and serve as a qualifier for the National Showcase. Kevin Schuver, the senior director of showcases at Perfect Game, said these events are chances for players to step out of their comfort zone and show what they’re really made of. “Perfect Game Prospect Gateways aren’t just events.
