Recruiting Rankings: Class of 2026

Jheremy Brown
Now that we’ve wrapped up our coverage of the top 2025 recruiting classes as they put the pen to paper last week, let’s take a quick look ahead at what’s in store for the 2026 crop, highlighting the current top 5 classes. Of course, being this far out things can and WILL change, especially as some of these top uncommitted players give their verbals, undoubtedly shaking things up.

Below are the current top ranked players in the 2026, all of whom are highly coveted and will have their choice of schools to choose from:

2. Jacob Lombard, SS, Miami, FL
3. Jorvorskie Lane Jr., C/OF, Fort Worth, TX
8. Kevin Roberts Jr, OF, Meridian, MS
9. Bo Holloway, LHP, Nolensville, TN
17. Miles Young, SS, Houston, TX

We’ll dive in and start at the top, highlighting the top 3 commits for each school while talking a little more in depth about where each school is at in terms of building at the current juncture.

1. Texas Longhorns
Head Coach:
Jim Schlossnagle | Recruiting Coordinator: Nolan Cain
Complete 2026 Recruiting Class

Top Commits
7. Beau Peterson, 3B, Shawnee, KS
20. Brody Bumila, LHP, Raynham, MA
32. Trey Rangel, RHP, The Colony, TX

We touched on the new coaching staff in Austin in last week’s Head of the Class where the 2025s checked in as the No. 2 class in the nation on Signing Day. Looking forward a year, Schlossnagle’s crew have put their thumbprint all over the 2026s as they went on a recruiting frenzy, literally covering coast-to-coast as they grabbed hard throwing left-hander Brody Bumila, already into the mid-90s, out of Massachusetts on the heels of landing one of the best pure hitters in the class in Kansas native Beau Peterson, joining a crew that already had a talented Californian backstop in Brady Murrietta. There’s a strong reach across the country, but more than half of the Horns’ commits hail from the Lone Star state, led by an electric right-hander in Trey Rangel who has already been up to 94 mph and is one of the more recent commits for Coach Schloss. Whether you’re looking for power arms or spin monsters on the mound, athletic defenders or middle-of-the-order juice, this Texas class has it all and I think it’s safe to say they aren’t done adding.

2. Tennessee Volunteers
Head Coach:
Tony Vitello | Recruiting Coordinator: Josh Elander
Complete 2026 Recruiting Class

36. Michael Teasley, RHP, Oak Ridge, TN
55. Jaxson Wood, SS, Hoover, AL
63. Cole Koeninger, SS, Keller, TX

Coming off a National Championship title certainly never hurts the recruiting pitch, but it’s fair to say Head Coach Tony Vitello and his staff were already at the forefront of the recruiting game, grab young talent early and often from all over the country. As you look up and down their commitment list it looks eerily similar to playing the “license plate game” as a kid on a long drive, starting close to home with a Tennessee native but then a “look out that window, it’s Texas”, “hey, I see a North Carolina” and even a “I can’t believe we found a Missouri”. Joking aside, this is a very well-rounded class which is led by flame throwing right-hander Michael Teasley who isn’t only up to 94 mph, but also spins one of the more devastating breaking balls in the country, regardless of class. The infield is full of depth with Jaxson Wood and Cole Koeninger are a pair of shortstops ranked within the top 75 while third baseman Brady Marshall and first base/left-handed pitcher Cody Boshell will man the corners while left-handed hitting Colten Springall provides depth up the middle in the dirt; all are top 100 ranked prospects. They have another 5 ranked within the top 150, quickly painting a picture of how potent this group could potentially be once they arrive in Knoxville.

3. Louisiana State Tigers
Head Coach:
Jay Johnson | Recruiting Coordinator: Josh Jordan
Complete 2026 Recruiting Class

22. Anthony Murphy, OF, Corona, CA
26. Jordan Martinez, SS, Jacksonville, FL
50. Nathaneal Davis, OF, Orlando, FL

Raise your hand if you’re shocked to see LSU towards the top of a recruiting list. Anybody? Didn’t think so. After assembling the nation’s top 2025 class for Signing Day, the Tiger’s coaching staff has shifted their attention to the ‘26 crop and have really solidified it into what we see today over the last 2-ish months with a big chunk of verbals coming in. On of the newest Tiger commits, Anthony Murphy, is a supremely athletic outfielder from a loaded up Corona HS squad and leads this group of commits which features 7 players in the top 100, including shortstop Jordan Martinez, who’s also a recent commit, and outfielder Nathaneal Davis, both of Florida. Speaking of recent commits, California first baseman Dylan Minnatee might be the most recent, as in a week or so ago, while a pair of middle infielders in Parker Loew and Bubba Coleman are amongst the elder statesmen of the group and committed well before the NCAA rule change. Simply put, this class is loaded and has the potential to be a foundational class for many more trips to Omaha in the future.

4. Vanderbilt Commodores
Head Coach:
Tim Corbin | Recruiting Coordinator: Jayson King
Complete 2026 Recruiting Class

6. Keon Johnson, SS/3B, Macon, GA
39. Noah Wilson, OF, Ooltewah, TN
57. Sean Duncan, LHP, Port Coquitlam, BC

It’s not a true recruiting class ranking article without Vanderbilt, a school who has been a staple since I started at Perfect Game and really diving into recruiting classes. The staff has remained true to their traditional pulls with a focus being on in-state talent and immediate bordering states and the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic given their entire coaching staff ties to the area, though it’s not uncommon for them to go into the Pacific Northwest, Florida or even Colorado as we’ve seen those states on previous iterations of the Vanderbilt roster and Eli Hurst, Jimmy Huard and Hudson Alpert are all KEY pieces in this crop. Shortstop Keon Johnson sits atop and is one of the biggest bats in the country and his commitment last week to the #VandyBoys was a huge win, beating out several SEC foes for his verbal. Noah Wilson brings game changing speed to the outfield and is one of the top ranked players in Tennessee with lots of strength in this left-handed swing while southpaw Sean Duncan has continued to see a healthy jump on the heater, approaching the mid-90s.

5. Stanford Cardinal
Head Coach:
David Esquer | Recruiting Coordinator: Thomas Eagar
Complete 2026 Recruiting Class

11. Alex Harrington, SS, San Diego, CA
12. Tyler Spangler, SS, Danville, CA
30. James Tronstein, OF, Los Angeles, CA

Of the top 5 ranked teams, the Cardinal have the least amount of commits at just 11 which truly emphasizes just how potent this crop already is. There’s clear intent from the coaching staff on cleaning up the top talent in-state as their top 5 commits, all ranked in the top 50 nationally, as from Cali. Shortstop Alex Harrington has been one of the more famous names on the national circuit over the last couple of years and rightfully so, showing smooth actions in the dirt and a crisp right-handed swing which has continually added strength each year. His twin, Hunter Harrington has game-changing defensive abilities out in center field thanks to his quick first step and closing speed while fellow outfielder James Tronstein is one of the more complete players in the class, living on the barrel with big defensive versatility. Slotted just Alex in the rankings is fellow shortstop Tyler Spangler, a long 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter who is coming off a strong summer circuit. Dillon Moss rounds out the top 5 and though he attends IMG in Florida, Stanford made sure to lock him up early thanks to the athleticism he brings behind the plate and high offensive upside.
