PG Iowa Spring League Notebook: No. 2

PG Iowa Spring League Notebook: No. 1

Cael Kluever (2026, Charlotte, Iowa) showed off some impressive stuff on Friday and again on Sunday. He has taken major strides on the mound with a strong and physical 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame. He showed a fastball that was up to 89 mph on Friday with tons of carry to it. He works the mid-80s and gets into the upper-80s at times. The changeup was up to 81 mph but mostly works the mid- to upper-70s, with tons of fade and sink to it. He flashes a low-70s breaking ball with good 11-5 shape and bite to it as well. Kluever looked good this weekend, inducing the swing-and-miss and finding success on the mound. Klueveris uncommitted.

William Pierro (2025, Dubuque, Iowa) continues to perform well this spring. He came out pumping on Friday working 90-93 T94 mph on the fastball, reaching back to grab 94 mph three times by my count. He flashed the hard-biting curveball in the 76-78 mph range with good 11-5 shape and bite. He showed a harder changeup in the mix as well. Pierro has high-octane stuff and fills the zone, being able to miss bats with ease. He’s really come along over the winter and has shown it early this spring. He found success in his outing against Team Ontario on Friday. The St. Thomas commit tallied a few hits on Saturday, including a home run, showing the two-way upside. 



Drew Sullivan (2026, Dubuque, Iowa) remains one of the most intriguing arms in the Iowa ‘26 class. He burst onto the scene last year and came out this spring working 88-91 T 92 mph on the fastball with tons of life and carry to the pitch. He located well in a neary all fastball attack with feel to pound the zone. He showed a changeup at 79 mph as well. Also has a mid-70s breaking ball with developing high-tilt shape. He’s got long levers in an uber projectable frame that bodes well for the future. Sullivan remains one of the premier uncommitted talents out there. 

Isaiah Scott (2026, Marion, Iowa) continues to be one of the best hitters this spring during PG Iowa Spring League. He has handled the barrel well and been able to consistently find hits. He has an uber athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame with good length throughout and projection that remains as he continues filling out. He’s a top-of-the-order type bat who can set the table and find ways on base. He produces hard hit line drives all over, including a few extra-base hits that he picked up this weekend. Isaiah is an uncommitted prospect. 

Elijah Scott (2027, Marion, Iowa) is another bat who has swung it well. Isaiah’s (above) younger brother who has handled the bat well. He’s got developing bat-to-ball skills with good feel to produce line drives all over the field. He’s been able to get the bat on it and drive it producing hits a ton this spring, including some extra-base knocks. Also got on the mound this weekend working the upper-70s with feel for a good breaking ball, showing some upside on the bump as well. Elijah is an uncommitted prospect. 

Jake Miller (2025, Marion, Iowa) had a great day on Friday, tallying a handful of hits, including a couple of doubles, and a triple as well. He’s a switch-hitting middle infielder with a ton of athleticism throughout a 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame. He’s handled the bat well, especially from the left side, turning hard on pitches with an aggressive move and good bat speed to impact the ball and create jump off of the barrel. Put together some good swings this weekend. Miller is a Southeastern CC commit. 

Chris Troyer (2025, Mount Forest, Ont.) took the mound for Team Ontario on Friday and again on Sunday. He’s got a really long and lean 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame with long levers and projection. He’s got plenty of room to keep filling out the frame moving forward. He worked the low- to mid-80s on the fastball with good feel to command the zone. The pitch had some life to it as well. He showed a curveball with hammer 12-6 shape in the low-70s and a bigger sweeper with high-tilt shape and plenty of horizontal depth in the upper-60s. He also flashes the occasional changeup. He knows how to pitch and projects really well moving forward. Troyer is a Union University commit. 

Adrian Krupka (2026, Toronto, Ont.) was another arm from the Team Ontario squad who got it done. Krupka has a strong 6-foot, 165-pound frame with room to keep adding. He worked the low-80s on the fastball from a higher slot. He pitches from an over-the-top arm slot, pulling down hard through it with a quicker release. He had a harder curveball in the mix with downer 12-6 bite to it. He mixed pitches well in his two outings this weekend. Krupka also got it done at the plate showing some feel for the barrel with a nice backside knock, elevating the barrel for a line drive into right field. Krupka is uncommitted. 

Alexander Tassopoulos (2025, Stouffville, Ont.) was another player for Team Ontario who looked good this weekend. The left-handed hitter was able to handle the barrel well and tally a couple of hits. He swings it well from the left side with an uber athletic 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame. Big body with a lean build and room to keep filling out. He uses a good leg lift to shift the weight back and then drive forward into contact. He turns hard and presents the barrel well with feel to drive it out in front. Tassopoulos produced some well-struck line drives this weekend. He’s currently an uncommitted prospect. 

Colin Miller (2027, Whitby, Ont.) is one of the Team Ontario bats who stood out this weekend. The left-handed hitting catcher has a lot to like about the operation. He’s a physical and strong 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame with projection in the build. He swung it well from the left side today, showing good feel to turn on pitches and drive the ball in the air. He drove one out of the yard for a 3-run home run on Sunday, and took good ABs all weekend. Plenty of traits to like with Miller’s profile. He’s currently an uncommitted prospect. 

Blake Chase (2025, Keokuk, Iowa) handled the bat exceptionally well this weekend for his Gamers Select roster. He was able to tally a half dozen hits on Saturday including some extra-base hits. The right-handed hitter had a deep crouched stance with an aggressive leg lift and move into it. He took the hands to the ball with some whip to the barrel and bat speed on display. He drove the ball well time-and-time again with a ton of feel to hit. Great hitterish actrions from the right-handed hitter led to a good weekend. Chase is a Southeastern CC commit. 

Brayden Mayer (2025, North Liberty, Iowa) took some really good swings on Saturday, showing off a clean left-handed stroke. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound backstop has plenty of strength and physicality in the frame. He uses the strength well in the swing, using the lower half and generating plenty of feel to leverage and impact well. He turned on pitches well and used the whole field with his hits. Mayer is an uncommitted prospect. 

Maddux Mueller (2026, Amana, Iowa) continues to be one of the premier talents in the ‘26 class, and one of the best uncommitted talents remaining. He’s taken serious strides on the mound and has been up to 87 mph this spring. He was working the low- to mid-80s on Friday in less than ideal conditions, with a long and loose arm action. Good whip to the arm with feel for the move down the slope. He also flashes two distinct breaking balls with a 12-6 curveball and 10-4 shaped slider in the mix as well. He handles the barrel exceptionally well with a smooth left-handed stroke that produces loud impacts and good line drives. He has the bat speed and strength to impact and get good jump off of the barrel. Mueller’s got a ton of upside and traits to like here. 

Michael Friedman (2025, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been on fire this spring. He’s been unstoppable on the mound with video-game like numbers through his first two starts. He’s pitched in 10.0 innings, allowing just 2 hits, walking 3 and striking out 27!! of the 30 hitters that he has faced. Friedman works the low- to mid-80s on the fastball, with good feel for a breaking ball that has developing 11-5 to 12-6 shape to it. Friedman has also swung it well too, tallying a handful of hits with a couple of extra-base hits as well. Friedman is currently uncommitted. 

Brett Harris (2026, Peosta, Iowa) has always been one of the premier talents and this weekend he showed it once again. The 6-foot, 205-pound frame has a ton of strength in an uber physical build. He uses the strength well at the plate and was able to produce one of the hardest balls hit all spring on a pull-side grand slam. He turned on a pitch and leveraged well, catching every piece of it to drive it high and deep for a home run. Harris continued to hit well throughout the weekend. The Ole Miss commit handles the backstop well and shines behind the dish with really good arm strength to cut down runners. 

Owen Hicks (2025, Iowa City, Iowa) is a usual suspect to perform well and he certainly did on Friday. He hammered four hits, including three triples on the day. He has an upright stance with high hands and a clean move working into it. He lifts the leg and strides hard into contact with good strength at impact. He showed clear feel to lift and was able to deposit balls into the gaps working the deepest parts of the yard for a trio of triples. Hicks is a Colorado School of Mines commit. 

Xavier Perez (2027, Urbana, Iowa) continues to be one of the premier bats in the ‘27 class, playing up and getting it done once again. Perez hammered a home run on Saturday with a really nice swing. The switch-hitting catcher got it done from the left side with hard turns and feel to show good bat speed working through it. He hammered one with a ton of jump off the barrel and the ball got out in a hurry as he left the yard on a home run. Perez is an Iowa commit. 

Isiah Rose (2025, Davenport, Iowa) has had a good spring so far, showing a ton of strength and ability to impact. He has been able to leverage well and drive the ball to all fields. He’s got an uber projectable 6-foot-6, 207-pound frame with a short stroke and feel to work through contact well. He presents the barrel with tight turns and feel to do damage, getting good impacts and jump off of hte barrel. Rose tallied a handful of hits Saturday, continuing to add to his impressive line this spring. Rose is currently uncommitted.

Augie Ferrell (2026, Hampton, Ill.) is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with a medium frame and athletic build. He’s a right-handed hitter who has really handled the bat well and this weekend he found a bunch of hits. He had four his on Saturday, working on the barrel time-and-time again, using the whole field. He’s 5-for-7 on the spring with a home run to his credit and continues to be a bright spot in the Iowa Select Ferrell lineup. Ferrell is currently uncommitted.

Will Specht (2025, Dubuque, Iowa) got it done this past Saturday for his squad, doing it both from the batter's box and on the mound. The Iowa Central commit tallied two hits on the day, both of them being extra base hits. He truly showed off his wheels too, with one of those hits being an inside the park homer. In this same game, Specht did his thing on the mound, striking out 4 out of the 6 batters he faced on the day. A top 20 player in the state of Iowa, Specht showed up in a big way.

Brandon Cummer (2026, Dubuque, Iowa) once again did his thing this past weekend! What really was most remarkable though was when Cummer stepped to the mound. Seven batters faced, six batters struck out. In addition, Brandon helped himself out, by reaching base twice, including an RBI single. Cummer has been labeled as a high follow and is a top 1000 player. He continues to get it done on both sides of the ball for a great start to this spring season.

Brady Grier (2028, Williamsburg, Iowa) might be only a freshman but he’s proving to become an instant impact player for years to come. From the box, Grier snagged two hits, one of them driving in two runs. We saw some true potential from the mound as well, with a fastball already sitting at 74 mph. Grier plays two years up his age, and is really making a name for himself this year during PG Spring League. The freshman is just getting started with plenty of time to keep fine-tuning his skills.

Trevor Kelling (2025, Cedar Falls, Iowa) had a very solid showing this past weekend and showed off some tools that are amazing to see as a catcher. The big one was speed as he was able to swipe a couple bags on the weekend, getting good reads on the bases. Kelling also drove in three in the same game. The Upper Iowa commit is just heating up this spring, as he shows why he’s one of the top catchers in Iowa. He swung it well and was able to pick up a couple of hits this weekend, showing some power in the bat as well.

Caleb Campbell (2027, Des Moines, Iowa) put on a show this weekend, and truly made a name for himself. Campbell comes in with truly quick hands, and quick feet, all around just a speedy guy. He’s a twitchy athlete with projectable stuff. Campbell saw the ball very well this weekend, with a few hits on Saturday. The sophomore is just getting warmed up this spring. He was able to help move the needle for his team and produce runs via his hits, adding to his team’s offensive production.

Another few weeks have wrapped up this high school season as we’re flying through the spring and most southern states are starting playoffs right around the corner. With the end of the regular season, we have another National Top 50 update to bring to you, along with this will be the start of the weekly editions of our National Top 50. We have a change at the top of the rankings as Venice (FL) takes over the top spot after just dominating their competition in the state of Florida this year. April 21st Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Tague Davis, IF, Louisville  The Louisville Cardinals (22-18) haven’t been able to get themselves in much of a groove this spring, their longest winning streak is 5-games, and they are (4-6) in their last 10-games.  The issue has not been the offense as the Cardinals are averaging over 8-runs per game and Tague Davis is leading the club in virtually every offensive category.  His calling card is his 70-grade power and that was on display last weekend in their series against Cal.  In the three-game series, Davis went 7 for 12, scoring 4 runs, launching 5 home runs and collected 7 RBIs.  The 6-4/220 lefthanded hitter from West Chester, PA has a pure stroke, is one of the premier power hitters in the nation and has significantly improved his plate discipline from a year ago.  After his big weekend, he is...

As the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end” and that was the case last Tuesday when UCLA (36-3) saw their 27-game win streak come to an end in a shutout loss to UCSB.  However, the No. 1 team in the land still has their 21-game winning streak in Big Ten to protect, as they have started off league play without a single blemish.  The Bruins will remain atop our poll this week and their historical start to the season roll on.  The UNC Tarheels (33-7-1) move up to No. 2 this week after they made their biggest statement of the year by taking the weekend series from now No. 4 Georgia Tech (32-7).  No. 3 Texas (30-8) and No. 5 Georgia (32-9) both went (3-1) on the week and won their SEC series to stay in contention for the regular season title.  Florida State (28-11) had a nice bounce back (4-0) week and re-enter the Top 10 at No. 8 this...

Joining them in the top 5, coming off an undefeated week of their own, is Florence-Darlington, a team we have consistently had as a top 10 team all season long. Cloud County and Midland College continue to put together strong weeks and climb the rankings each week it seems. As the calendar turns toward the final weeks of the regular season, the urgency is real across all three levels — teams are running out of weekends to build their cases, and the extended postseason invitations that every program is chasing don't go to programs that peak in March.
