Evoshield Seminoles 17U and South Texas Sliders went seven frame with neither side giving an inch, ending in a 0-0 tie.
Nic Enright (2015, Steward HS, VA) was the big story of the night, striking out 12 batters in seven scoreless innings, allowing a single hit, two walks, and a hit batter. The Virginia Tech commit sliced and diced his way through the opposition using an 86-88 mph fastball, maxing out at 89 mph with a 77-80 mph slider and 72-74 mph change up. Enright comes from an overtop arm angle, keeping the ball low with sound mechanics and good use of his lower half.
Caleb Setliff (2015, St. Christopher's HS, VA) tallied the only extra base knock, roping a double to lead of the 7th inning and hit into a fielder's choice. The Seminoles got singles from Michael Pates (2015, Riverbend HS, VA), Daniel Brooks (2017, Spotsylvania, VA), Michael Geary (2015, Benedictine HS, VA), Will Allocca (2016, Collegiate HS, VA), and Clayton Baine (2016, Paul VI Catholic HS, VA) but all were left stranded.
Rice commit Mason Hellums (2015, Tuloso-Midway HS, TX) threw seven scoreless for the Sliders but wasn't quite as impressive as Enright but still dominant. He struck out eight with one walk and six hits allowed. He threw a 78-83 mph fastball that topped out at 84 mph, going with a 65-69 mph curve more often than his 64-70 mph change up.
Jason Sellers (2015, Fort Bend Elkins HS, TX), a UT-San Antonio commit, recorded the only hit for the Sliders, with Nick Anderson (2015, Kempner HS, TX) and Oklahoma State commit Alex Shaver (2015, George Ranch HS, TX) both stealing a base after reaching on an error. Riley Hood (2015, Foster HS, TX) and Jace Selsor (2015, Reagan HS, TX) worked the two walks off Enright and Jonathan Kastens (2015, George Ranch HS, TX) was hit with a pitch.
